The panel focuses on contemporary North Africa, paying special attention to Tunisia. An overview of the European Union migration politics towards North Africa will be complemented by a paper that investigates the viewpoints of Tunisian youth towards migration abroad. In post-revolutionary Tunisia outlawed and minority parties came to the fore . ‘Moderate Islamism’ will be discussed in an attempt to demystify this Western category. A focus on progressive and secular parties will then enable us to question their evolutionary, and paradoxically nostalgic, view of history
